Ideas for Promoting your Website and Business |
|
Last week, a website owner asked me "What can i do to promote my website?"
I subscribe to the “in your face” type of advertising.
I have a problem with paying over and over for print advertising, because it really doesn’t get to that many people any more, (unless it’s direct to home junk mail, (and don't get me started on the people leaving flyers on my doorstep).
So the trick is to get the name in front of anybody, I look for advertising that gives the best coverage with the least expense, Most that I do are 1 time payments. |

Is your website on your Business Cards?
It should be, right along with your name and biz name. even go as far as generic cards for your employees to give out, and encourage them to give cards out. I have a place for cheap cards if you need it. For really cheap Business cards, check out VistaPrint.com

Is your website on your Building Windows?
I know your back in a secluded area but I would put the website address big on the window so the customer see’s it as they are coming in.

Is your website on your Flyers?
I would add something like “to busy to Stop In? Shop our website for what you need. I like doing flyers because only people that might need your service are going to take them.

Is your website on your Car?
Do you have a company Vehicle? I have found that my van is the best thing I did. I have even watched someone writing down my number in the rearview mirror. Use this vehicle for any and all errands, lunch, deliveries, anything you do or have someone do for the company, drive that vehicle. Try to think of some graphics that stand out, the WOW factor, make the potential customer go “What the heck is that?” if they notice it, they’ll probably remember it. I also have somebody that can do this.

Is your website on your Clothing?
Design a logo for shirts. I went 2 directions on this: nice collar shirts for me to wear to jobs, and T-Shirts. I got nice collared shirts with embroidered logo on the chest for a really good price, they allow for 4 piece minimum order and have great sales and awesome service (they replaced a 6 piece order, 4 shirts, a jacket and a attaché bag without blinking an eye, and told me to keep the old stuff) and then get t-shirts silkscreened with chest logo and something big on the back, then give these out to your friends and special customers, maybe sell some. You can keep the cost down by going with something simple, 1 color on white is cheapest. I also have somebody that can do this too.

Local Store Advertising:
What I do here in town is look at all the places I go and see if they allow for you to leave flyers, if they do ask if you can leave a flyer stand (staples), and since it’s a place you frequent, you can keep track of if people are taking them. I have found the best places are where you eat, and I frequent them because they let me advertise. And as time goes by, you learn which is worth leaving flyers or not. (I go out everyday at lunchtime, drive around busy lunch areas, and then go to lunch and park where everyone can see the van, and check flyers while eating. And a lot of times, those places you frequent also become your clients

Below are ideas that do have reoccuring charges but seem to get good visual coverage |
Mobile Advertising:
This is new and looks like a great idea but looks like it would cost a bit. There are trucks running around town now designed with a cube on the back with 3 huge windows in it with revolving ads in the windows. I notice it every time I see 1. (sorry, don’t know where just yet) |
